There are so many great opportunities to play music around Wilmington! Here are a few jams that I regularly attend and/or lead
Old Time/Bluegrass at Satellite
Every 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sunday you can find Old Time and Bluegrass at Satellite Bar and Lounge. The Sail Away Ladies and Friends perform from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, then we have an open string jam from 7:30pm to 9pm. Bring your stringed (or bellows!) instruments and play or sing along! We play a good number of dance tunes at this jam so if that’s your joy, bring your dancing shoes! 1st Sunday of the month is an open jam from 6:30pm to 9pm led by Al Hall.

Traditional Irish Session
Every Saturday from 2pm to 4pm you can find traditional Irish music at the Harp. Please visit our Facebook page at https://m.facebook.com/groups/1543280575758114/?ref=share
for additional information and a list containing some of tunes we commonly play. This is usually a fairly fast session, however all levels are welcome; traditional Irish session etiquette applies!

Port City Slow Jam
Have you ever wanted to play Old Time or Bluegrass but worried you wouldn’t be able to keep up or know the tunes? Our Port City Slow Jam is a great place to start this leg of your musical journey! This beginner friendly jam is based in Old Time and Bluegrass, but we welcome adjacent genres (early country, Americana, Cajun, etc.) as well if you’re just starting out and want to get in on the fun! We meet every Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm at Whiskey Tango Foxtrot downtown.

Old Time Jam with
Sea level String Band
Every 2nd and 4th Thursday you’ll find us at Fermental playing Old Time tunes from 7pm to 9pm. If you’re a lover of pre-Bluegrass mountain music, this is the jam for you. You’ll find us all packed in playing along with our banjos, guitars, fiddles, and even the occasional accordion! All levels are welcome but we often move fast. Come out and be a part of this fantastic community! Find more information on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558101935431 and dancers, make sure to bring your dancing shoes!

Slow Bow - Irish Tune Learning Session
Our Saturday Irish jam moves fast and folks mostly learn tunes by ear and memorize them. If you’re interested in playing but have trouble memorizing music or learn best with sheet music, join us most Wednesday evenings for a slow paced tune learning session. This jam takes place at a private residence in Monkey Junction most Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 8pm, and is designed for beginners. Contact me for additional details and visit our Facebook page at https://m.facebook.com/groups/1135891857978156/?ref=share for updates and tune lists we work on each week.
